TARRIFFS SHOOTS UP; GHANAIANS CRY. KONADU AGYEMANG ATTACKS MAHAMA
The woes of Ghanaians just got bigger as the Public Utility
Regulatory Commission PURC, on Monday 7th December 2015 announced an
increase in tariffs. The said increment
is to take effect from 14th December 2015.
The never reliable electricity couldn’t have gotten any
worse; as electricity tariffs was shot up as high as 59.2%. This is surely a
fulfillment of the “if you want quality, then prepare to pay more” statement
released by the president some weeks ago. Water was however no exemption, as it
saw a whopping 67.2% tariffs increment.
DR KWABENA DONKOR |
KOFI KAPITO |
Inalienably, influential politicians and stakeholders have
released statements expressing sentiments about this unceremonious increase in
tariffs. With Kofi Kapito, Chief Executive of
the Consumer Protection Agency charging the power Minister, Dr. Kwabena
Donkor to resign. He further went on to urge Ghanaians to protest the
increment.
NANA KONADU AGYEMAN RAWLINGS |
Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former first lady and founder
and leader of the National Democratic Party, was however not left out as she
took to social media to say John Mahama and his incompetent government is
heartless for pursuing this increment. She ended by urging Ghanaians to be bold
and say no to the NDC government.
